Summer is defiantly Ouray’s busiest season. The restaurants, shops and sidewalks are buzzing with the normal activities of a vacation town.

Given that Ouray  is surrounded by hundreds of miles of old roads that lead to crumbling mining camps, mills, ghost towns  and other historic towns like Telluride and Silverton, its no surprise that many vehicles are set up for off road exploring.

The parade, picnics and water fights carry on a 100 yr tradition on the July 4th weekend. Word has got out on the fun off spending this holiday in Ouray and therefore every room and camping spot is booked out. So be in early if you want to be part of this fun.

There are many activities to be taken advantage of at this time of year including hiking, fly fishing, jeeping, panning for gold, mountain biking, rock climbing. . In the afternoons, you might encounter a brief thunderstorm with an emphasis on "thunder" (we're at 7,800 feet above sea level). The showers typically only last an hour or two and then we see the sun again. Ouray’s monthly precipitation is less than two inches- of course no guarantees given! It's pretty warm during the day but cools off nicely at night.
